Hello everyone! Today is Ha (8) – To (10) Day—Hato, the Japanese word for pigeon.
Speaking of pigeons, of course, there’s the ultimate Kamakura souvenir—the bright yellow box of Hato Sablé!

The origin of the shape goes back to the founder’s deep respect for Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.
On the shrine’s main hall hangs a plaque with the character for “Hachi” (八, meaning eight), stylized from two pigeons facing each other.
According to history, when the Hachimangu Shrine was relocated to various places across Japan, pigeons were said to guide the way.
This led to the tradition of associating the “eight” character with pigeons—an image so beloved that it inspired the creation of Hato Sablé.

Crispy, fragrant, and perfect with milk, tea, or even breakfast!
At the Kamakura flagship store, you can also find pigeon-themed tins and goods—souvenirs that make you want to buy some just for yourself, not just for gifts. A must for pigeon lovers!
See you next time!
