Hello, everyone! Today, I’d like to introduce you to World Migratory Bird Day, celebrated around the world on the second Saturday of May and October. In 2025, the dates will be May 10 and October 11. It’s a wonderful day that invites us to pause and reflect on nature and wildlife.
Let’s start with the basics—what are “migratory birds”? These are birds that travel long distances, changing their habitats with the seasons. They move to warmer regions to escape the cold of winter or fly to places better suited for raising their young. Unlike resident birds such as sparrows, migratory birds like swallows, terns, and grey-faced buzzards cross seas and continents—truly “travelers of the sky”!

The theme of this year’s World Migratory Bird Day is “Protect Insects, Protect Birds”, focusing on creating bird-friendly cities and communities where people and birds can live together in harmony. Along their journey, migratory birds stop at lakes, rivers, and wetlands to feed, rest, and raise their young. Water is essential not only for birds but also for our lives. That’s why protecting water ecosystems means sharing a future with these birds.
Various observation events and activities are held around the world for World Migratory Bird Day. Checking out what kind of events are happening can be fun, too! If you’re curious, take a look at the event map . Why not take a moment to think about the journeys of these incredible birds? Until next time!
