The Song of the Eastern Crowned Warbler

Fun Facts

Hello everyone! Have you heard of the Eastern Crowned Warbler? Its song and behavior are full of surprises! Today, I’d like to introduce you to this fascinating bird.

The Eastern Crowned Warbler is about 12.5 cm long, slightly smaller than a sparrow. Its greenish-brown plumage and distinctive whitish eyebrow make it easy to recognize. During the spring and autumn migration seasons, you can spot them in nearby wooded areas or parks, so they might be more familiar than you think.

These warblers breed in the forests of Japan, from Kyushu northwards, but in winter, they migrate all the way to Southeast Asia. As summer visitors, they energetically flit through mountain forests, hunting small insects and spiders hiding beneath leaves—an agile little predator! Watching them dart around the branches is truly endearing.

Their song sounds like “Chiyo-chiyo bee,” while their call is a thin “Fiss, fiss.”

The Eastern Crowned Warbler’s song and behavior offer a glimpse of nature’s richness. Next time you’re in the mountains or at a park, try listening carefully and see if you can spot one! Until next time!
