The Meadow Bunting with Snow-White Cheeks!

Fun Facts

Hello, everyone! Today, I’m going to talk about a modest little bird living quietly beside us, warming our hearts – the Meadow Bunting. Their singing brings us peaceful moments.

The Meadow Bunting is about 17cm in length, similar in size to a sparrow but appears slightly larger due to its longer tail feathers. A distinctive feature is the white throat, cheeks, and eyebrow spots seen on adults. Their bodies are reddish-brown, with black stripes on their backs, and the white parts of their tails flicker conspicuously when they fly. There are color differences between males and females, with males being somewhat more vivid.

Meadow Buntings love open spaces. They are often found in gardens, parks, and grasslands. They have a varied diet; eating insects in spring and summer, and switching to plant seeds in autumn and winter. It’s quite clever how they adapt their diet to the season. Another charm of the Meadow Bunting is their song. Especially in early spring, males perch on bushes and sing powerfully!

Even in urban areas, if you listen carefully, you might hear the Meadow Bunting’s song. Amidst our busy lives, the sudden beauty of nature that Meadow Buntings bring can be a delightful surprise. Why not take a moment to listen to their ecology and songs? Until next time, see you!
