Impressive Blue Feathers with Geometric Patterns: The Blue Jay

Fun Facts

Hello, everyone! Today, I’d like to talk about a familiar blue bird in North America, the Blue Jay.

The Blue Jay is a bird slightly smaller than a pigeon, measuring about 22 to 30 cm in length. Both males and females share the same coloration, but males are slightly larger.

Their feathers are known for their striking blue color and beautiful geometric patterns. The blue hue stands out against the sky and trees, making their appearance in nature akin to a painting. However, they are sometimes controversial for raiding the nests of other birds.

Blue Jays have crest feathers on their heads that indicate their emotions, changing shape depending on their mood. They stand up when excited and flatten when relaxed, which is quite endearing.

Blue Jays are intelligent birds living in the natural forests of North America, and they have a wide range of vocalizations. They can even mimic the calls of birds of prey. One of their distinctive sounds is the “Jay! Jay!” call, which has given them their name. They are beloved by people and even serve as the mascot for the MLB’s Toronto Blue Jays.

Unfortunately, they do not inhabit Japan, but in North America, they can be commonly seen even in urban areas. The calls and lively behavior of the Blue Jays captivate those who see them. If you ever get the chance to visit North America, be sure to look out for them. Until next time, take care!
